The hips are one of the most important joints in the body, and a source of pain manifestation. Hip Opening Flow is a Level 1/2, 40-­minute yoga class designed to release stress, tension, and “the past” from this vital joint with a dynamic opening sequence.

Focusing on the hips, stress relief, basic movements, and a sense of well ­roundedness, this class is in Vinyasa and Hatha styles and is meant to melt away stiffness, stagnation, and pain in the hips through Lizard and Pigeon postures. Lizard pose, or utthan pristhasana, is a versatile yoga posture offering many benefits, including opening of the hips, hip flexors, and groins.

It opens and releases the chest, neck and shoulders while strengthening inner thigh muscles on the front of the leg. It also prepares the body for the more challenging Pigeon posture. Pigeon pose, or eka pada rajakapotasana, is a more advanced hip opener and backend that strengthens the thighs, groins, and back. It also opens the chest and shoulders.
