Yin yoga is a slow-paced option where asanas, or poses, are held for longer periods of time--usually five minutes or longer! Created by martial arts expert and Taoist yoga teacher Paulie Zink in the late 1970s, yin yoga poses put modest pressure on connective tissues in order to increase flexibility and circulation in the joints. Movements are also designed to enhance the flow of qi in the body, or the energy believed to run through meridian pathways.
